Get It Done

Didn’t carry out the job you told me to perform.

Put it off, did other things that caused great harm.

Had a clear duty to complete certain tasks.

Went my own way, like a stage actor miscast.

Nodded when I should have shaken my head for wrong assignments.

Functioned like a joint out of place that needed realignment.

Was a drum major out front for others’ agendas, not mine.

Placed my schedule in the back, and on my tasks, got behind.

The days are gone, and I taste bitter lament

Wasted time on things for me, not meant.

I sigh with sorrow for what I have done.

Grieved the Holy Spirit, you and your dear Son.

Yesterday has expired, and it’s a new day.

You told me again and showed the way.

Don’t come off the wall until it’s done, you said.

I know if I don’t, there will be tears to shed.

Thank you for confession and repentance

Brought about your freeing forgiveness.

Today, it feels like a fast forward from yesterday; it went so fast.

In the end, I look forward to hearing you say, well done at last.

Think about it.
